Henry F. Lininger was born on April 22, 1847 in Franklin County Pennsylvania, the son of Louis/Lewis Lininger (1820-1899) who was born in Pennsylvania, and Margaret Grove (1824-1895) who were both born in Pennsylvania.

On March 1, 1864, at the post office at Cranesville, West Virginia, Henry enlisted in the Union army at the age of 18 for duty in the Civil War. He served in Company K, third regiment, Potomac Home Brigade, Maryland Infantry until he was discharged from service on May 29, 1865 at Baltimore Maryland. Henry served a little over one year before the was ended. (The last Confederate troops surrendered on May 26, 1865; Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865.)

On December 22, 1867, Henry married Mary Ann Fike, the daughter of Peter Fike and Sarah Boger Fike. 10 children, 8 boys and 2 girls were born between 1868 and 1886. On August 24, 1889 Mary Ann died at the age of 41of cholera at was buried near Accident, Maryland at the Fike Cemetery, Harmon Road at The Cove.

On April 17, 1892 Henry married Margaret Ann “Maggie” Hinebaugh. Six boys were born between 1893 and 1907. Margaret died In German, Fayetteville County, Pennsylvania at the age of 56 on November 23, 1921.

Henry received a government pension during his life, beginning December 12, 1927 until his death he received $90. a month. Henry died on May 30, 1930 of diabetes and old age at the age of 83, he and his 2nd wife are buried in St. Jacob’s Evangelical Lutheran Church cemetery out of Masontown, Pennsylvania. on May 30, 1930 at the age of 83 at the Uniontown Hospital in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, where he had been hospitalized for more than 2 years.
