Katherine “Kate” Vita was born on May 30, 1863 in Boehem, Koenigreich, Prague, Austria to John Jan Vita and Marie Mary Fraljach. She was the 5th of seven children, 3 boys and 4 girls, all born in Bohemia. Per US census records all children born in Austria/Bohemia. The family immigrated to the US in 1871 from Austria/Bohemia. They settled in Wheatland Township, Rice County, Minnesota.
Note: Boehmen, Koenigreich -refers to the Kingdom of Bohemia (now Czech Republic) as an area of the Austrian empire, rather than to a village. It is now the region around Prague.

Jan John Vita was born on April 3, 1817 in Koenigreich, Austria, and died on Jun 8, 1899 in Helena, Scott, Minnesota. Marie Mary Fraljach Vita was born in May of 1830 in Boehemen, Koenigreich, Austria, and died on August 8, 1911 in Wheatland, Rice, Minnesota. They were married about 1853.
