Katherine “Kate” Vita was born on May 30, 1863 in Boehem, Koenigreich, Prague, Austria to John Jan Vita and Marie Mary Fraljach. She was the 5th of seven children, 3 boys and 4 girls, per the US census records all children born in Austria/Bohemia. The family immigrated to the US in 1871 from Austria/Bohemia. They settled in Wheatland Township, Rice County, Minnesota.

Note: Boehmen, Koenigreich -refers to the Kingdom of Bohemia (now Czech Republic) as an area of the Austrian empire, rather than to a village. It is now the region around Prague.

Kate married Orson Mosher at the age of 16 on February 6, 1880 in St. Paul, MN. They lived in Wheatland Township, Rice County, MN. and by 1888 were living in Faribault, MN. Their 9 children, 3 girls and 6 boys, were all born in MN. In 1907 they moved to Waterloo where Orson’s mother lived.

Kate died at the age of 72 on March 28, 1936 from acute cardiac failure from toxic thyroid due to Graves’ disease. She had been in failing health for several years, and was buried in Fairview Cemetery.
